Expert summary
The Greenpeace Foundation, now widely known as Greenpeace, was founded in Vancouver, Canada, on September 15, 1971. The first motivation was to oppose the US testing nuclear devices in Amchika, Alaska. At first most of the adherents were environmentalists who reminded the world of the counterculture and hippie youth of 1960s. In no time the movement was run by active environmentalists who had a clear idea of what they were fighting for. Quite naturally, the focus of the movement has turned to all vital environmental issues, such as global warming, bottom trawling, whaling, and, of course, nuclear power. It has national and regional offices in many countries and they are affiliated to the Amsterdam-based Greenpeace International.Recommended content

Greenpeace
Greenpeace is one of the most important environmental groups and this book illustrates why. It's a history of the triumphs and conflicts that plagued the organization since its inception. Initially I was shocked at how uncoordinated Greenpeace seemed to be, but I respect the author for openly revealing these deficiencies. The organization was forced to evolve in the tactics they used, as they constantly expanded to fight new nuclear and environmental threats.
